Yet with broadband penetration we are again in a government monopoly-like situation where several countries are announcing investment plans and grants for the development of broadband. What are the latest trends and why is private investment not forthcoming in broadband? What are the ways forward? |

Rollout of wireless networks in rural areas will ensure delivery of basic services to the larger part of the country in the future. |

Mobile devices allow a two-way conversation with customers and could represent the next frontier in advertising. Mobile operators and service providers possess significant capabilities and assets giving them unique advantages in terms of reach, collaboration, and analytical capabilities. But they need to work within the overall advertising ecosystem to effectively monetise these assets. |

| Article abstract: |
| User growth of social networks in India is outstripping even the growth in mobile web usage. The mobile web is rapidly becoming the social web. The resulting bandwidth load on networks is considerable. But new technologies are evolving that will allow most content to be displayed inside the web browser. Making existing web applications work on mobile phones would be a more sustainable solution than multiple, separate applications that run on a variety of handsets. The mobile web itself, rather than standalone mobile applications, could become the winning platform on mobile. |
